Located in Terminal D of Sheremetyevo International Airport in Moscow, Russia, Matryoshka Business Lounge is an airport hospitality space inspired by one of Russia's most recognizable cultural symbols: the traditional nesting doll.
Opened in February 2016, the lounge accommodates up to 85 guests and provides dedicated areas for dining, relaxation, and passenger services.
The project combines contemporary airport hospitality requirements with an interior concept rooted in Russian cultural heritage, creating a distinctive environment for domestic travelers.
The interior architecture was developed by M+R Interior Architecture, a Netherlands-based design studio, following a design competition held in 2015.
Inspired by the traditional Russian matryoshka doll, the architectural concept interprets the idea of layered forms and spaces within spaces, translating a familiar cultural object into a contemporary hospitality environment.
Curved architectural elements, integrated furnishings, and carefully coordinated finishes contribute to the lounge's distinctive visual identity.
The arrangement of seating, dining, and service areas balances the architectural concept with passenger comfort, operational efficiency, and the practical requirements of an international airport.

The company's scope included a custom reception desk, buffet counter, decorative wall cladding, and architectural wall panels.
The interior elements incorporated Corian® solid surface, natural oak veneer, and enamel finishes, combining precision-fabricated surfaces with detailed woodworking and decorative finishing techniques.
